There are alternatives. BIO-DEGRADABLE bags disappear. DEGRADABLE bags don't.

• Refuse a plastic bag whenever you can.
• Reduce your use of plastic bags – try to have a re-usable bag with you whenever you go shopping.
• Reuse your existing bags.

...as a shop

• Ask 'Do you need a plastic bag for that or are you ok without?', 'Would you like a bag or do you have one already?'
• If a bag is necessary, offer an alternative – paper, biobag*, cotton...
